Community & Creativity at The Buccaneer
At The Buccaneer in Roatán, our vision has always extended beyond hospitality. We believe that a place rooted in beauty, history, and culture should also play an active role in nurturing the community that surrounds it. In this spirit, we have been honored to open our doors to the children of Roatán through a series of creative workshops designed to inspire curiosity, imagination, and confidence.
Recently, we welcomed students from local schools to participate in two special art workshops led by visiting artists Elmer Guevara and Juana Subercaseaux, both resident artists of Casa Pequeña, our artist residency program. Through painting, drawing, and creative exploration, the children had the opportunity to spend time with professional artists who shared not only their techniques but also their passion for artistic expression.
Moments like these remind us that art has the power to open new horizons. For many of the children, it was a first experience working closely with professional artists, discovering that creativity can be a language through which they express their stories, dreams, and the vibrant spirit of their island.
At The Buccaneer, we see these initiatives as a small but meaningful way to contribute to the cultural life of Roatán. By connecting our community, our residency program at Casa Pequeña, and the young people of the island, we hope to help cultivate a sense of possibility and pride in the next generation.
Supporting creativity, education, and community engagement will continue to be an important part of what we do. The Buccaneer is not only a place to gather—it is also a place where ideas, friendships, and inspiration can grow.

We at The Buccaneer are all very involved in our Community of French Harbour and we sponsor various projects, here are some:.
“Let’s Paint French Harbour” Project
The Project “Let’s Paint French Harbour” aims to revitalize various areas of the fishing village of French Harbour. It was carried out in partnership with local community and with help of volunteers. During the first phase of the project two high visibility houses were fixed and attractively exterior painted to create a new attention in the community and to energize the residents.
The projects leaders Ronald and Aksinia Pozzi say: “ The beginning phase of the project has begun. These two houses were the first to agree to being part of our efforts. And the results show. After a thorough cleanup and repaint job the homes are a beckon in La Loma. We are awaiting for the communities feedback before starting the next set of homes. What do you think?
